‘The nation forgets’ - Nigerian comedian Bovi sends message to Super Eagles following impressive AFCON outing
The match, held at a raucous Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah, saw Nigeria hold the host to a goalless draw through 120 minutes of intense football.
However, the dream of reaching the final ended in a penalty shootout, where Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved spot-kicks from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi.
The loss crushed Nigeria’s hope of making a back-to-back AFCON final after reaching the last two in 2023.
Bovi’s message to Super Eagles
Following the defeat, Bovi took to his Instagram page to express his feelings, emphasising that for Nigerians, football is more than just a game.
"If there's anything that unites Nigeria as a nation, it's football," he stated. "So, dear Super Eagles and intending Super Eagles players, regardless of how the NFF treats you, if you choose to play, understand that you have the potential, the power, the strength to unite Nigeria."
The comedian highlighted the unique power of the sport to bring together people from all walks of life in the country.
"Muslims, Christians, people from the North, West, East, and South all unite whenever Nigeria plays, in case you don't know.
“In our victorious moments, the nation forgets where anyone is from. You have to treat each game like an assassin."
The Super Eagles will now face Egypt in a third-place clash on Saturday as they look to settle for a bronze medal.
