Sir Jim Ratcliffe flies in for talks with Ruben Amorim amid Man Utd's horrific start to the season
In just five games this season, United have already suffered a humiliating defeat to League Two side Grimsby, been heavily beaten by their local rivals and required a 97th-minute penalty to secure a narrow home win against relegation favourites Burnley.
They have collected a meagre 31 points from 31 games, with only eight wins. The trend has continued this season, as United's four points from their opening four league matches mark their worst start to a campaign since 1992-93.
Amorim is under increasing pressure in the Old Trafford hotseat, with his team managing just one victory in their first five matches of the campaign.
Ratcliffe set to decide Amorim’s future
According to The Athletic, the INEOS chief arrived at the Carrington training ground by helicopter for a series of meetings, one of which was with Amorim.
While the meeting was reportedly scheduled long in advance, the team's current alarming form was a key topic of discussion.
Since Amorim's arrival last November, his team has the worst record of any club that has remained in the Premier League during that period.
Despite the poor results, Amorim remains resolute in his tactical approach, insisting he would have to be sacked before he abandons his 3-4-3 formation.
"It is not a record we should have at Manchester United. I accept that, but I am not going to change," Amorim stated after the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
"When I want to change my philosophy, I will change, but if not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game we lose. I have played my way, and I am going to play my way until I want to change."
