She did Nigeria proud - Ex-Super Eagles star hails Tobi Amusan
Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has praised Nigerian sprint queen Tobi Amusan for securing a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The race produced one of the biggest surprises of the championship as Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, 23, stormed to victory in 12.24s, setting a national record and securing her country’s first-ever world title in the event.
Amusan, who clocked 12.29s, finished just behind to claim silver, adding to Nigeria’s medal tally at the championships. The American duo of Grace Stark and Masai Russell finished third and fourth, respectively, in 12.34s and 12.44s.
What Udeze said
Speaking on Brila FM, Udeze commended the world record holder for making the nation proud despite falling short of gold.
“Congratulations to Amusan; she did Nigeria proud. We expected her to win the gold, but the silver is not bad. So once again, congratulations to her,” Udeze said.
The 27-year-old Nigerian entered the final in superb form after cruising through her semi-final heat in 12.36s, raising hopes of retaining the crown she won in Eugene 2022, where she set the current world record of 12.12s.
Though she narrowly missed gold in Tokyo, Amusan’s silver is Nigeria’s 12th medal in World Championships history, cementing her place as one of the country’s greatest athletes.
