Red Devils captain explains why he snubbed rivalry with Messi or Ronaldo before making transfer choice
Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne has revealed why he chose to join Napoli despite better financial offers from the MLS and Saudi Arabia.
KDB’s choice
As Pulse Sports reported, KDB will play his football with the Serie A champions next season after signing a two-year deal with the option to extend for a further year.
He decided after an intensive and public effort to sign him from the MLS franchise Chicago Fire. The American team hoped to hand one of their Designated Player positions to him and build the team around him, as Inter Miami has done with Lionel Messi.
There was also interest from the Saudi Professional League, but it was initially reported that KDB was more amenable to a move to the United States. That changed when Napoli presented their offer.
KDB explains picking Napoli
The 34-year-old has already begun preseason training with Partenopei, and today, he explained to reporters why he joined the club.
“I decided to join Napoli as here the project is ambitious; I can feel the club is progressing fast,” he told reporters, per Fabrizio.
“My excitement was clear when Napoli presented me their project and vision. I feel here we can be competitive; that’s what I wanted.”
Meanwhile, some of the supporters observing Napoli's preseason training unfurled a disturbing banner calling Victor Osimhen a ‘peasant’ after the Nigerian rejected Napoli’s plea to remain at the club amid Galatasaray's interest.
