Verstappen defeated Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc to take pole position ahead of Sunday's main race.
After the race, the former Real Madrid manager went to the podium to present the Dutchman an award, as reported by Goal.
Since departing Los Blancos in 2021, the 51-year-old former France international has not managed a team.
Though he hasn't had any official negotiations with either Manchester United or Bayern Munich, he has recently been linked to both teams.
Following France's loss to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final, there were suspicions that Zidane would be called up, but those were quickly squashed when Didier Deschamps' contract was extended through June 2026.
He has also been linked to several top clubs in Europe including Manchester United who could let go of Erik Ten Hag at the end of the season.
It's unclear whether United would think about bringing the renowned Frenchman to the Premier League if they choose to let go of Erik ten Hag.
