The Brazilian forward will miss the remainder of the season and the upcoming World Cup, following the devastating diagnosis.

ACL injury confirmed after Getafe clash

Rodrygo sustained the injury shortly after coming on during Real Madrid's 1-0 LaLiga loss against Getafe CF.

Just minutes after stepping onto the pitch, Rodrygo fell awkwardly on the flank, with his right knee appearing to get caught underneath him.

Although he showed visible signs of pain, the Brazilian winger managed to continue and finish the match. However, discomfort persisted, prompting further medical examinations.

Tests conducted the following morning confirmed the worst possible outcome, an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee. The diagnosis not only ends his club season but also rules him out of representing Brazil national football team at the World Cup.

Rodrygo had only just returned to action after nearly a month on the sidelines with tendinitis, making the setback even more heartbreaking.

Real Madrid left short in attack

The injury leaves Real Madrid severely depleted in attacking options ahead of their important upcoming fixtures.

With Kylian Mbappé also sidelined and Mastantuono suspended following a late red card, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are left with limited firepower.

Only Vinícius Júnior and Gonzalo remain available as natural forward options for the trip to Vigo, significantly narrowing Madrid’s attacking depth at a crucial stage of the campaign.

For Rodrygo, the timing could not be worse. Having worked his way back from injury and regained fitness, the ACL tear now means a lengthy rehabilitation process lies ahead, and the painful reality of missing football’s biggest stage with Brazil.
