Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe will avoid a harsh punishment for his horrific tackle on Antonio Blanco, which could have kept him out of the El Clasico Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Kylian Mbappe received his marching orders just before halftime of Los Blancos’s 1-0 victory against Alaves after a mistimed lunge that landed on Blanco's shin. 

The tackle was horrific, and there was no debating it from Mbappe, who reportedly apologised to both the player and his teammates after the match. 

Following the incident, which earned him a ton of criticism, including speculations that he intended the act, as the tackle looked nasty, he was expected to serve a multi-match ban for the straight red card. 

According to reports from Spain, the competition's disciplinary committee will only be suspending the France international for one match, meaning he will miss Real Madrid's home game against Athletic Club this weekend.

It is believed that the refereeing notes of Cesar Soto Grado influenced the decision, as he summarised that the tackle came about after a “genuine” attempt for the ball by Mbappe. 

Had it been deemed a flagrant offence, he would have served up to a three-game suspension across all Spanish competitions, which would have effectively ruled him out of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. 

Meanwhile, Mbappe would have no problem starting in tomorrow's Champions League game against Arsenal and they look to overturn a three-goal deficit.
