Real Madrid drop points to Sergio Ramos's Sevilla ahead of El Clasico

Dani Carvajal rescued a point for Real Madrid after a David Alaba own-goal nearly handed three points to Sevilla.

Los Merengues missed a chance to open a bigger gap at the top of the log. Their draw to Sevilla now means if Barcelona beat Athletic Club tomorrow, only one point will separate both teams heading into El Clasico next week.

Real Madrid started brilliantly at the Sanchez Pizjuan and got the ball into the back of the net as early as the 5th minute of the game; however, the goal was ruled out upon VAR intervention. 

Los Blancos got the ball into the goal again, this time the assistant referee's flag cut short their celebrations.  

Sevilla got their footing in the game and had their turn to threaten the Real Madrid backbone, but failed to beat Kepa Arrizabalaga. 

It was the home team who eventually took the lead in the game when Austria international David Alaba turned the ball into his own net.  

Real Madrid responded almost immediately when Carvajal headed the ball past the Sevilla goalie from a Toni Kroos freekick. 

Both teams pushed for the winner, but the game remained 1-1 and both teams took a point a piece.
