Rampant Senegal beat hosts Algeria to reach quarters
It seems Senegal’s dominance in African football is not about to end as their Teranga Cubs thrashed hosts Algeria to book the first slot in 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Teranga Cubs saw off Congo 1-0 through Fallou Diouf’s goal in the first match before sealing their slot on Tuesday in emphatic fashion.
Captain Amara Diouf led by example, scoring a brace in either half as substitute Mamdou Sawane closed business with Seengal’s third in the 85th minute.
The West Africans lead Group A with an assailable six points after two games leaving the Algerians, Congo and Somalia to fight for the other slot and, possibly, a best third-placed team spot.
The Somalians -the only CECAFA representatives after South Sudan was disqualified- made history for themselves by picking their first-ever point in a 1-all draw against Congo.
