The sorry state of Kenyan football was laid bare on Monday when a Nairobi based FKF Premier League referee and his family ushered in the new month of August by spending a cold night after his landlord kicked them out for rent arrears.

Too scared to parade his name out for fear of victimization the center refree who will remain unnamed is calling for Football Kenya Federation to pay the whistlers their six-month arrears to help ease his plight.

“I have been kicked out of my house and my kids did not even go to school today. I don’t know what to do. I know if FKF pay my dues that go back six months I would be able to sort some of the pressing needs and give my family relief,” the referee told Twiga

Kenyan referees are enduring a tough time as the federation has not paid their dues for months. Their protests are however very muted for fear of being frozen out from future fixtures by some vindictive individuals.

The whistlers are also wondering why payments for the Mozzartbet Cup, a sponsored League Cup, have not been paid yet the betting company settled all payments.

“Maybe the federation is in a fix and cannot settle match fee from the premier league but why don’t they pay for other games we handled for Mozzartbet Cup? It is really frustrating but I cannot confront them in the open. I still need to officiate in the future.

"If I come out in the open you can be sure I will not be anywhere near a league game. They will even strike me off the list of qualified referees. Our body for referees is there but no one is talking. If the officials who should advocate for us are silent I cannot come out in the open,” the distraught whistler pour out
