Percy Tau Reveals How Much South African Clubs Must Pay for Him to Sign
South African forward Percy Tau has named his price for any top team looking to sign him back home.
Tau is a free agent after leaving Qatari side Qatar SC last week after the club opted against exercising their two-year option on his contract, having initially joined on a six-month deal.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward was reportedly on a salary of $920,000 (Ksh118 million) monthly at Qatar SC and as he looks for a new home, he knows not every club will be able to pay him that much.

Describing his salary demands as reasonable, Tau gave a figure that would appeal to him if it came from a South African club amid recent reports linking him to Kaizer Chiefs.
How Much Is Percy Tau Willing to Accept from South Africa?
“I am Kaizer [Motaung], I at Naturena offer you R450,000 [Ksh3.3 million] a month. Do you accept?” broadcaster Robert Marawa asked Tau on Wednesday.

I don't always get the money I ask for when I negotiate
But if a club, like Kaizer Chiefs, tables an offer of R450 000 per month with a 2 year contract + one, then I am willing to open my mouth & start the negotiation
It's a perfect deal

Tau then asked: “For how many years?” to which Marawa responded: “You sign two [years] with an option.”
“Perfect,” Tau said, indicating a willingness to accept such a contract as long as it is at least two years.
The 31-year-old also made it clear that he is open to signing for any South African club as well as his terms are met and not just the Big Three of Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and his ex-side Sundowns.

“I will listen if there are offers, I’m not ruling out anyone. There’s a lot to take in, to consider, you have to consider age, how long the contract is and then family,” he added.
Tau has been one of the highest earning South African players during the course if his career, having spent five years at Sundowns from 2013-2018, before signing for Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion, although he did not make the grade and was shipped out on loan to Belgium.
He returned to Africa and joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly in August 2021, becoming one of the biggest earners on the continent on a monthly salary of $100,000 (Ksh13 million) and spent three-and-a-half years in Cairo before moving to Qatar in January this year.
