Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed Rodri’s injury, and that he will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season.
Rodri's injury
The 28-year-old had a brilliant start to the Premier League clash against Arsenal last weekend, but his outing was cut short after he went down in the 21st minute, clutching his knee.
The worst was feared after the injury, and he subsequently travelled to Spain to meet with a specialist to determine the injury's nature and extent.
While fans waited for the result with bated breath and hoped for the best, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has now delivered heartbreaking news, confirming that the Spain international has ruptured his ACL and will now miss the rest of this season.
What Guardiola said
The Spaniard confirmed in today's press conference ahead of their Premier League clash against Newcastle that Rodri will undergo surgery tomorrow morning to repair his ACL.
"Unfortunately, Rodri got the worst outcome,” he said, per Fabrizio Romano. “He got surgery this morning, ACL and some meniscus. This season is over for Rodri. Next season, he will be here.
He, however, did not confirm if they would be replacing him with a new signing, stating that they were evaluating solutions internally.
“We are speaking internally. We have time to see the potential problems we will have and then we see what we want to do.”
