Osimhen named alongside Salah in Africa's 100 most notable Peace Icons

He joins a distinguished group of influential figures, including Nigerian billionaire banker Tony Elumelu and Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah.

Osimhen's inclusion follows a remarkable season in Turkey, where he scored 36 goals in 40 appearances for Galatasaray while on loan from Napoli.

The 26-year-old Nigerian played a key role in the club's historic league and cup double, becoming the most prolific foreign player in a single season in Galatasaray's history.

The list was announced in Abuja on Wednesday by the organisers of the 2025 Peace Icons Awards, according to The Guardian.

The announcement precedes the '100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit' scheduled for July 4-6 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Lagos-born striker has already been named Galatasaray's Player of the Season. He is also set to be officially confirmed as the 2024-25 Super Lig top scorer with 25 league goals, including nine crucial opening goals that often proved decisive.

Other Nigerians honoured include World Trade Organisation Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, businessman Femi Otedola, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Dr Charles Odii, head of Nigeria’s SMEDAN.

Also on the list are Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Ambassador Patricia Obi-Abu, and Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.

Prominent figures from across the continent also feature, including Dr. Imane Kendili (Morocco), Zimbabwean Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, and Tanzanian Dr. Angel Josephat Natianota.

Project Director Ambassador Kingsley Amafibe commended the honourees, stating that the award celebrates Africans who have "consistently used their platforms and influence to promote peace, unity, and socio-economic development."

While a return to Napoli this summer is anticipated, Osimhen is also exploring potential moves away from the Italian side.
