'We have to be better in the derby' - Osimhen’s teammate sends strong message ahead Fenerbahce clash after UCL loss
Ilkay Gundogan, a key midfielder for Galatasaray and former Manchester City star, has called for improvement following their disappointing Champions League defeat, emphasising the need to bounce back ahead of the crucial Super Lig derby against Fenerbahce.
Gundogan played a part in the match where Union Saint-Gilloise secured a 1-0 victory at Rams Park, thanks to Promise David’s second-half goal in the absence of Victor Osimhen.
The result was a setback for Galatasaray, who now turn their focus to their bitter rivals in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season.
Dejected after the game, Gundogan expressed regret about the Champions League loss in an interview with UEFA.
“We had a bad day today,” he stated after the encounter. “We made too many individual mistakes. We made the wrong decisions in our final choices. We are all truly sorry.”
He added, “To make up for tonight, now we have to be even better in the derby against Fenerbahce on Monday night.”

With league positions tight, only one point separating the two teams, Galatasaray know they cannot afford a similar slip-up against their fierce rivals, especially as they aim to solidify their top-of-the-table standing.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Canadian forward, David, has stated that his club Union Saint-Gilloise were rewarded for their impressive display against the Lions in Turkey.
According to the 24-year-old of Nigerian descent, while their hosts Galatasaray had chances, the visitors were able to block them en route to the decisive goal and winner in the second half.
David said, “I think it was a good game. We blocked Galatasaray well. They had their chances, too. We got the reward for our good play tonight.”
