Six players have entered the race to win the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Player of the Month award for March and April.
This comes following an announcement on Thursday by the League Bloggers Awards (LBA), the organisers of the NPFL monthly honours.
Obioma eyeing second consecutive award
Enyimba forward Chukwuemeka Obioma got nominated for the second time this season after having won the award for February.
The striker continued his impressive scoring form that saw him maintain his place at the top of the scorers chart, and edge the Aba Elephants closer to a spot in the NPFL Super 6 playoff.
Other players in the running for the March/April award include Obioma's closest scoring rival Robert Mizo, as well as two of his Bayelsa United teammates Alex Oyowah and Stephen Wisdom.
Plateau United's right winger Izuchukwu Chimezie, and Akwa United's Cyril Olisema are the other players that complete the list.
LBA explains reason for March, April merger
According to a statement by LBA, March was placed under consideration along with April as only two rounds of games had been held in the month due to Nigeria's general elections.
Since the resumption of the 2023 regular season on March 25, there have been seven matchdays, with teams set to play just two more games.
Meanwhile, the Interim Management Company (IMC) in a recent statement revealed that the NPFL Super 6 playoff is scheduled to commence on Friday, May 19, although it remains unlikely due to a backlog of outstanding games.
