NPFL Super 6: Rivers United B-end Insurance's 21-game unbeaten run in style
Bendel Insurance have lost their unbeaten run after a day to forget against champions Rivers United at the NPFL Super 6 Playoffs.
Insurance had their 21-game run without defeat ended by the defending champions following a 2-1 loss on matchday four at the NPFL Playoffs on Friday afternoon.
Rivers too good for Insurance
Two beautiful goals in either half from the Pride of Rivers were enough to bring to an end the longest unbeaten run in NPFL’s history.
In a keenly contested encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, the fans were made to wait until added time in first time for the breakthrough, with Morice Chukwu putting the champions in front.
The second half was as hotly contested as the first and the next goal also arrived late, this time super-sub Joseph Onoja wrapping up the win following beautiful work by fullback Udeme.
There was still time for one more goal, this time from Insurance as Divine Nwachukwu headed in a late consolation for the Benin Arsenal.
What the result means
With the result, Benin Insurance have now lost for the first time in 21 matches and remain winless in the NPFL Playoffs after four matches.
The defeat also puts an end to their title aspirations with just a game left to go.
For Rivers United, it was a decisive victory that saw them go three points clear at the top before Enyimba thrashed Sunshine Stars later on in the final game of the day.
