NPFL: champions Rivers United survive Bauchi heat
NPFL champions Rivers United’s late push for a place in the Super Six survived a scarce in Bauchi after an intensive game against Wikki Tourist.
United were visitors to the Tourists and came out with a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw on Thursday.
The game between the two sides was a rescheduled game following United’s busy schedule in the CAFCC.
Wikki hold Rivers United
In a keenly contested encounter, it was the home side who started strongly.
But after 45 minutes, there was nothing to separate both teams following a goalless affair at the break.
After the break, it was the hosts who finally found the breakthough when Victor Okoro put them 1-0 up following a goal-mouth scrabble.
However, the lead lasted just 15 minutes before the Pride of Rivers leveled the scores with Albert Korvah getting the decisive goal.
The final 20 minutes saw both sides try to find the winner but it proved elusive and the spoils were shared between them in the end.
What the result means
A point on the road keeps Stanley Eguma and his United in the race for the Super Six.
United are now just three points behind Group B leaders Lobi Stars with two games in hand.
For Wikki, the result did them no favours as they remain deep in relegation, two points from safety heading into the final game of the season.
