‘Not Ready’ Kenya Lose Hosting Rights For Regional Tournament
Kenya has lost the hosting rights for a regional volleyball tournament owing to the country’s lack of readiness as per the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).
The country was set to host the CAVB Zone V Club Championship for both men and women in Nairobi from February 8-16 but that will now not happen as Kenya was not ready due to reasons that are yet to be made public.
“We regret to inform you that the above Championship that was set for 8th to 16th February in Kenya has been pushed following Kenya Volleyball Federation’s inability to host as scheduled,” said CAVB Zone V President Sadik Nasiwu via a circular.
“A new host and venue will be announced in due course. We apologies (sic) for the inconveniences caused. The rest of the zonal events remain as scheduled.”
Who Makes Up the Tournament?
The annual regional tournament comprises top clubs from 12 countries within Zone V, which include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Egypt while it acts as a key qualification and ranking event for African clubs.
Kenya had won the bid to host the tournament last November, having beaten Uganda and Ethiopia for the fourth edition of the annual championship.
The nine-day championship was held in Uganda last year with Rwanda’s APR winning both men and women’s titles while Rwanda staged the 2019 and 2023 editions.
It remains to be seen which country Nasiwu and team will settle on given the proposed starting date is two-and-a-half weeks away.
