No shame in losing to a top four team - Manchester United, Amorim told to be proud in defeat to Grimsby
Manchester United and coach Ruben Amorim have been urged to take pride despite their shocking Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town, with South African comedian Noah Trevor suggesting there’s no shame in losing to a “top four team.”
The Red Devils suffered a stunning defeat against a club three divisions below them, in a match that was painfully memorable for their Cameroonian stars and fans.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana’s costly errors and Bryan Mbeumo’s missed penalty in the shootout sealed a humiliating exit for Manchester United.
Despite their overwhelming financial and league status advantage, Manchester United found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime.
The fourth-tier Grimsby seized their chance in front of their home crowd, frustrating the Premier League giants in a stunning display.
Although the Red Devils fought back to level the game in normal time, their hopes were dashed in the penalty shootout.

The drama intensified during the shootout after Grimsby’s Clarke Oduor missed his spot-kick, offering Manchester United a lifeline.
However, Matheus Cunha, Manchester United’s marquee summer signing, saw his potentially decisive penalty saved.
The shootout continued into sudden death before Bryan Mbeumo missed his second attempt, officially ending Manchester United’s campaign.
