Nigerian nightmare Anthony Joshua to receive mammoth ₦134 billion for breaking Jake Paul’s jaw
Anthony Joshua delivered a stunning performance against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on Friday, securing a sixth-round knockout in Miami and leaving Paul with a reportedly broken jaw.
The former two-time world heavyweight champion dominated the bout, turning what many expected to be a chaotic spectacle into a showcase of skill and power.
Joshua’s masterclass in the ring
Joshua entered the fight as a huge favourite, chasing the elusive Paul around the ring for several rounds before scoring four knockdowns.
The fight culminated in the sixth round when Paul could no longer beat the referee’s count, handing Joshua a decisive KO. The bout followed Paul’s previous controversial yet lucrative victories over Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., making Joshua’s win all the more significant for boxing fans.
Despite the hype surrounding early knockouts, Joshua’s measured approach demonstrated his ability to control the fight and capitalise on opportunities, leaving Paul battered and humiliated in front of a packed Miami crowd.
The victory did little to enhance Joshua’s legacy but was still confirmed as one of boxing’s most lucrative crossover fighters.
Record-breaking payday for Joshua
The financial stakes for the bout were enormous, with reports suggesting a total purse of $184m to $267m, to be split between the two fighters.
According to sports and entertainment accountant Oriana Morrison, even at the lower figure, Joshua could net $92m—roughly ₦134 billion—placing this fight among the richest in boxing history.
Morrison compared the payday to iconic bouts such as Mayweather vs Pacquiao in 2015 and Mayweather vs McGregor in 2017, highlighting the magnitude of the earnings.
The fight has now positioned Joshua as a major attraction for the US market, taking his talent and charisma to a new audience while delivering a historic payday for the Nigerian heavyweight star.
