The Malian tactician, however, insists the Super Eagles have the depth and mentality to overcome a major setback and book a place in the final.

Chelle rues Ndidi suspension ahead of Morocco clash

Nigeria will be without captain Wilfred Ndidi for Wednesday’s heavyweight semi-final after the Besiktas midfielder picked up a suspension following his yellow card in the 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria.

Ndidi’s absence has sparked concern among fans, given his influence in midfield and leadership throughout the tournament.

Chelle did not hide his frustration when addressing the media on Tuesday, acknowledging how much the Super Eagles will miss their skipper. “I am disappointed for him because he brings so much to the team,” the coach said.

Ndidi has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers at AFCON 2025 and even opened his goal account for the national team earlier in the competition against Tunisia.

Losing such a key figure at this stage represents a significant blow as Nigeria prepare to face a well-organised Moroccan side on home soil.

Confidence remains as Super Eagles back squad depth

Despite the setback, Chelle remains upbeat about Nigeria’s chances and believes other players are ready to step up in Ndidi’s absence. The Super Eagles coach stressed that the team’s unity and quality across the squad could prove decisive against the Atlas Lions.

“But we are a group, I have some players, some very good players, who are waiting for a chance to show what they can contribute,” Chelle explained.

“So I am very confident about that and I have to make a choice among some players. Everything will be fine.”

With a place in the AFCON final at stake and hopes of a fourth continental title still alive, Chelle will be banking on adaptability and collective strength to help Nigeria overcome Morocco and keep their dream run going.
