Nigeria vs Benin: Chelle drops Captain Ekong, hands start to Zaidu, Chukwueze in World Cup qualifier
Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle has opted to drop captain William Troost-Ekong from the starting eleven against Benin.
The important Group C encounter in Uyo sees the veteran central defender replaced by Semi Ajayi, who will partner with Calvin Bassey at the heart of the defence.
The tactical reshuffle also hands starting berths to left-back Zaidu Sanusi and winger Samuel Chukwueze, as the Super Eagles chase a decisive victory to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Sanusi, who replaces Bruno Onyemaechi at left-back, provides a fresh option in the defence.
The most notable change, however, is the omission of Troost-Ekong, who has been a mainstay in the team's backline.
The decision to pair Ajayi and Bassey suggests a move for renewed defensive solidity as the Super Eagles face a strong Benin side led by former coach Gernot Rohr.

In the attack, Samuel Chukwueze comes into the starting line-up, taking the place of the suspended Ademola Lookman, who is out due to card accumulation.
The AC Milan winger is expected to provide width and creativity, linking up with striker Victor Osimhen.
