Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is unlikely to be back early enough to face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg after early reports indicate a layoff of between three to four weeks.
Neymar could be out for up to four weeks
Neymar was taken off injured in PSG’s thrilling 4-3 win over Lille in Ligue 1 on Saturday after he had already scored one goal and assisted another.
The Brazilian forward was having a great game before being injured early in the second half, and he will be disappointed to be out of action again so soon after returning from injury.
An initial MRI of Neymar’s ankle injury revealed that the 31-year-old was not suffering from a fracture and was due to return soon, but a report from Le Parisien suggests that Neymar could be out for an extended period of between three and four weeks.
The report claims that Neymar suffered some ligament damage in his ankle, which is similar to the injury that kept him out of two matches at the World Cup with Brazil.
Neymar could miss crucial PSG matches
If the report rings true, Neymar will need a minor miracle not to miss the UEFA Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, which is scheduled to take place in just over two weeks on the 8th of March.
Neymar will also miss the crucial Ligue 1 fixture between PSG, who are top of the table, and Marseille, their closest rivals, who are only five points behind the league leaders.
Neymar will be a big miss for PSG as he has been one of the club’s best players this season, helping the team’s cause with 35 goal contributions in 29 matches.
