As it happened
Eddie Howe made five changes to the Newcastle side that lost 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca named an entirely different team from Sunday, showcasing the strength of his squad.
Just 23 minutes into the game, with much-attacking threat from Newcastle, the Magpies took the lead.
Chelsea made a proper mess out of playing it out from the back and Alexander Isak slots in from eight yards out.
Three minutes late, Newcastle doubled their lead, putting Chelsea in a difficult situation. Isak put in a cross from the left-hand side and Joe Willock headed towards goal, but Axel Disasi missed his footing and knocked the ball into his own net.
Nothing much came from Chelsea in the first half, but entering the second half, they got into dangerous areas that caused Newcastle problems.
However, they failed to get the ball into the back of the net, with Newcastle claiming a 2-0 victory and moving to the next round of the competition.
