National League side Boreham Wood beat Arsenal in preseason
Former Premier League title contenders Arsenal have become the latest top-flight side to suffer defeat to National League opposition in pre-season.
Fifth-tier club Boreham Wood enjoyed a victorious outing against a strong Arsenal XI following a 2-1 win.
The game was held at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, Meadow Park, on Saturday afternoon.
Boreham vs Arsenal
In what was their final match in pre-season, Boreham signed off in style against the Gunners.
The Woods netted two first half goals, with Ghana’s Kwesi Appiah one of the tormentors-in-chief on the day for the Arsenal U21s.
Boreham started the brightest and did not take long to break the deadlock when Appiah slotted past goalkeeper Noah Cooper in goal for Arsenal.
Three minutes later, the Woods doubled their advantage in a blistering start, with Mo Sagaf drilling home the second goal.
The Gunners did fightback when Marcelo Flores pulled one back after the half-hour mark.
However, it was nothing but a consolation in the end as Boreham held on for the win to wrap up preparation for the next season in the National League with a win.
A touch of Naija for Arsenal
There were two Nigerians in action for the Gunners, Ethan Nwaneri and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji.
Both youngsters gave a good account of themselves with Nwaneri the better of the two talented players on the day.
Nwaneri featured from start to finish while Oyedeji was one of the several changes made by the Gunners before the start of the second half.
Arsenal join Chelsea
Following their defeat, Arsenal join city rivals Chelsea as the latest to taste a defeat to a National League club.
You will recall that Pulse Sports reported that the Blues were trolled following a shock defeat to Aldershot Town FC.
Aldershot delivered a stunning display to thrash Chelsea 3-1 before going on to mock them on their social media platform.
Chelsea should be happy they are not the only ones now after fellow Londoners, Arsenal’s defeat at Boreham.
