In an interview with Telecomasia.net, the Harambee Stars defender explained that their seamless understanding on the pitch is built on a long-standing bond.
"We have been friends for a long time. Not only have we played together with the national team, but also during our small-sided games at home where we are neighbours,” Michael Kibwage explained.
“I think this has been a really good foundation because we understand each other off the field and we translate that to the field as well."
The pair previously featured together for the national team, Harambee Stars, during the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Michael Kibwage emphasised that the connection extends to the entire defensive unit, including goalkeeper Byrne Omondi.
"Not just the two of us but Byrne, our keeper, as well. We have a very strong bond," he added.
"We are just getting started and I believe together we can achieve great things this season. The spirit we carried on from CHAN is pushing us towards achieving something great at club level."
After an opening day 1-0 loss to Bidco United, Gor Mahia has embarked on a three-match winning streak, with the partnership between Michael Kibwage and Sylvester Owino providing the defensive foundation for each victory.
After four matches, Gor Mahia currently sit third in the league standings with nine points, just one point behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz and second-placed Posta Rangers.
Following their disappointing defeat to Bidco United, Gor Mahia bounced back with a 2-0 win over Sofapaka and a narrow but determined 1-0 victory against KCB.
They now head into the next fixture on the back of a convincing 3-0 triumph over Posta Rangers, a result the team dedicated to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
