Manchester United vs Tottenham: Perfect Carrick carries on as Red Devils win four in a row
Goals from Cameroonian star Bryan Mbeumo and Portuguese maverick Bruno Fernandes were enough for Manchester United to earn a 2-0 win over visiting Tottenham Hotspur.
The comfortable victory over Tottenham, who had captain Christian Romero sent off midway through the first half, was Manchester United's fourth on the bounce under Carrick, pushing them closer to a permanent place in the top four.
Manchester United vs Tottenham: How it happened
Tottenham showed early intent as Conor Gallagher nearly connected with Xavi Simons’ clever pass, but that moment faded quickly as Manchester United took control.
United began carving through Spurs with ease, creating chances through Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, before Tottenham’s situation worsened when captain Cristian Romero was sent off for a reckless challenge on Casemiro before the half-hour mark.
The breakthrough followed soon after. Fernandes’ corner was worked smartly to Bryan Mbeumo, who calmly guided his shot through a crowd and into the bottom corner for his 10th goal of the season.
United pushed for more before the break, with Guglielmo Vicario producing sharp saves to deny Casemiro and Amad Diallo, keeping the scoreline tight.
United thought they had doubled their lead early in the second half, only for Amad’s finish to be ruled out for offside. Spurs briefly threatened through Simons, while Luke Shaw stayed heavily involved as United continued to press.
Further offside calls denied United again before Fernandes finally delivered the decisive moment late on, finishing at the back post from Diogo Dalot’s cross.
The win cements United’s top-four position, while Tottenham’s poor run extends to eight league games without a win, leaving them 14th and dangerously close to the relegation fight.
