Carrick’s early reign could hardly have started better, as United followed up a derby win over Manchester City by producing a stunning comeback away at league leaders Arsenal last time out.

Overturning a deficit to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory and becoming the first team to beat the Gunners on their own turf this season was another step in the right direction for the team.

That result extended the Red Devils’ unbeaten Premier League run to six matches (W3, D3), the longest active streak in the division, and lifted them into the top four.

Confidence is clearly returning at Old Trafford too, where United have lost just once in their last ten league outings (W6, D3).

Carrick now has the chance to equal Ruben Amorim’s longest winning run as United manager in the Premier League, and with swagger creeping back into their play, the hosts will expect to remain firmly in the Champions League conversation.

Fulham, though, arrive with momentum of their own, as Marco Silva’s side showed resilience last weekend, responding to a setback against Leeds by snatching a 92nd-minute winner to defeat Brighton.

That victory leaves the Cottagers just four points behind United and unbeaten in seven of their last eight competitive matches (W5, D2).

In fact, Fulham are enjoying the most productive eight-game Premier League spell in their history in terms of points gained (17), matching the total they had managed across the previous 15 fixtures combined.

The only blemish in that run came in their most recent away match, however, and that may temper optimism ahead of this trip to Manchester.

Manchester United vs Fulham head-to-head history

United have dominated this fixture in recent years, losing just one of the last 20 Premier League meetings (W15, D4).

Still, Fulham will take encouragement from the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, which ended 1-1, as they chase the rare feat of avoiding defeat in both league meetings with United for the first time since the 2003/04 season.
