Manchester United vs Everton: Red Devils rescued by Penalty Goals to Overcome Toffees
The Red Devils were forced to rely on two first half penalties as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League following back-to-back losses against Fulham and Manchester City.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were the heroes in the early kick-off against Everton as they both converted from the penalty spot to earn the home side a 2-0 win.
How it happened
Despite a shaky start from the hosts, Everton handed Manchester United an early advantage within the first 10 minutes. James Tarkowski's challenge on Alejandro Garnacho resulted in a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted from 12 yards to give United the lead.
While Everton had their chances, with Dwight McNeil and James Garner testing United, the Red Devils doubled their lead before halftime. Another penalty was awarded after Garnacho again was brought down by Ben Godfrey. Marcus Rashford expertly converted the spot-kick, securing a 2-0 lead for United at Old Trafford.
In the second half, United continued to look threatening, with Garnacho and Fernandes creating opportunities. Everton's Abdoulaye Doucouré posed a threat, but his effort was well blocked by United goalkeeper André Onana.
As the match approached its conclusion, the intensity waned, and Manchester United secured the win, ending their run of back-to-back defeats. Everton, on the other hand, faced familiar issues with goal scoring, deepening their concerns in the relegation battle with a five-point gap from the drop zone.
