Manchester United identify 2 goalkeepers to replace De Gea
The 32-year-old Spaniard, who joined United in 2011 from Athletico Madrid has produced some amazing performances during his 12 years stay at the club, but his abilities have also been questioned due to the many howlers that have blighted his career.
Of all the Spanish goalkeepers that have graced the Premier League, David De Gea has made the most errors leading to goals (17).
It was also unfortunate that the Spaniard was left out of Luis Enrique’s side that was dumped out of the 2022 World Cup in Saudi Arabia the group stage.
His errors have proved too many, which has made the clubside to be in the market for a new shot stopper that will take over from David De Gea.
Ten Hag shows support for De Gea
Despite Eric ten Haag giving the former Atletico Madrid number a pat on the back after the West Ham game, reports have it that United are trying to get a replacement.
Here are the 2 goalkeepers that United has lined up to replace David De Gea;
1. Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb)
The Sun reported that United are in the running to trigger the £9m release clause of Croatian goalkeeper, Dominik Livakovic who plays for Dinamo Zagreb.
Dominik Livakovic’s impressive display for Croatia who finished in third place at the 2022 FIFA world cup is one option that United are considering to replace De Gea in between the sticks.
Croatian outlet Sportske also confirmed that United were set to meet the release clause of the 28-year-old who is out of contract at Dinamo Zagreb next summer.
2. David Raya (Brentford)
Eric ten Hag, as reported by The Sun, is also looking at signing Brentford’s David Raya to solve United goalkeeping problems caused by De Gea’s inconsistencies.
Reports also have it that David Raya whose contract runs out in 2024 has refused to sign a new one with the Bees despite being presented with two offers. He told The Athletic,
"I turned down two contracts, one last year and one this January. They weren't the offers we were looking for. I can only say that."
Renowned journalist, Fabrizio Romano in a tweet reported that Brentford will ask for a fee of €40m, and that David Raya is open to moving to a top club.
David Raya will not sign a new deal, no changes on his future as many important clubs are monitoring him closely for the summer 🔴🇪🇸 #transfers

It remains to be seen who would replace De Gea at Old Trafford, but without a doubt if he continues to produce howlers, his starting position might just be under threat.
