Manchester City end Community Shield hoodoo with shootout win over Manchester United

Manchester City and Manchester United went head-to-head at Wembley for the first piece of silverware in English football this season.

Both City and United showcased their attacking prowess, yet neither side could gain the upper hand by the 90th minute.

United initially took the lead in the 82nd minute, thanks to a clinical finish from Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho latched onto a precise pass and fired a shot past City’s goalkeeper Ederson, giving United a 1-0 advantage.

The goal was a testament to United's ability to capitalize on opportunities and showcased Garnacho’s rising star power.

However, City responded with equal urgency. Their relentless pressure finally paid off in the 89th minute when Bernardo Silva equalised.

Silva’s goal was the result of a brilliant lofted pass from Oscar Bobb, with Silva heading into an unguarded net.

The game remained intensely competitive, with both teams pushing for a decisive goal.

Manchester United had the first chance and it was taken well by Bruno Fernandes.

Bernardo silver came next but missed the penalty when Andre Onana pulled the heroics.

Kevin de Bruyne, Garnacho and Erling Haaland all scored their penalties before Jadon Sancho missed.

From here, a series of penalty kicks featuring; Savio, Casemiro, Ederson, McTomminay, Nunes, Lisandro Martinez and Reuben Diaz were all taken successfully.

Johnny Evans missed his penalty, the 15thg spot-kick before Manuel Akanji showed him how it's down and won Manchester City the trophy.
