Ademola Lookman has encouraged Atletico Madrid to remain upbeat despite suffering a narrow 1–0 defeat to Real Betis at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday night.
The loss marked an important moment in Diego Simeone’s campaign, as it was Atletico’s first LaLiga defeat on home soil this season. Real Betis secured the win through Brazilian forward Antony, who struck just before the half-hour mark to silence the home crowd.
While the result was a setback for the title-chasing side, the match carried personal importance for Lookman, who made his LaLiga debut for Atletico Madrid in front of their supporters.
The Nigerian international came close to a perfect introduction, only to see an early effort ruled out for offside.
Despite the disappointment, Lookman focused on the positives, highlighting the importance of the occasion and the support he received from the fans.
What Lookman said
“Not the result we wanted but we stay positive,” the 28-year-old wrote on X.
He added, “Very special moment making my debut in the Metropolitano. Aupa Atleti.”
