“Verbal agreement reported last week now confirmed as MLS approved all the formal steps. Messi stays at Inter Miami for 3 more years.”

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham expressed his delight at securing the legend’s long-term future, saying: “Our vision was to bring the best players to Inter Miami and to this city, and that’s exactly what we have done.

“We brought the best player to have ever played the game to our city. That shows our commitment to Miami, but it also shows Leo’s commitment to the city, to the Club, and to the game.

“He’s still as committed as he’s ever been and he still wants to win. To have a player who loves the game as much as he does and inspires the next generation of young talent, we feel very lucky.”

Messi’s lasting impact on and off the pitch

Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023, a move that completely transformed the club’s fortunes. Since his arrival, he has led them to their first two major trophies: the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, while also collecting a long list of personal accolades.

He was named Leagues Cup Best Player and Top Scorer (10 goals in seven games) and won the 2024 MLS MVP Award, registering 36 goal contributions in just 20 league appearances.

Messi’s influence has gone far beyond the pitch. His arrival sparked a wave of international attention for MLS at a crucial time, as the United States, Canada, and Mexico prepare to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Now 38, the 2022 World Cup winner shows no signs of slowing down. In the 2025 season, he once again finished as MLS Golden Boot winner with 29 goals, becoming the first Inter Miami player to win the award. He also led the league in goals as the club finished third in the Eastern Conference, setting up a playoff clash against Nashville SC.
