Lima withdraws from hosting the 2024 World under-20 championships

Due to circumstances beyond its control, Lima City has withdrawn as the host city of the 2024 World Athletics under-20 Championships which were to be held from August 26-31.

The Peruvian Athletics Federation informed World Athletics that recent political instability and social unrest, as well as natural disasters in Peru, have left the federation and the local organising committee unable to stage the event next year.

World Athletics extended a hand of gratitude to the Peruvian Federation and the LOC for their extensive time and effort they had already dedicated to the event and for their ongoing commitment to global athletics.

World Athletics has revealed that it's in discussion with a replacement host for next year’s event and will provide more information in due course.

Las year’s event was successfully held in Cali, Colombia.
