Libya vs Nigeria: CAF president Motsepe reveals what will happen 

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrick Motsepe has commented on the scary situation the Nigerian Super Eagles faced in Libya. 

Super Eagles players and officials were subjected to harsh treatment in Libya ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last week. 

The three-time African champions were scheduled to play against Libya in the return leg of the clash last week Tuesday, but could not honour the engagement after they were held hostage for over 20 hours at the airport. 

The team’s flight to Benghazi, where the match was supposed to take place, was diverted to the small airport away from Benghazi just as the pilot was completing his approach to the Benghazi Airport. 

This was the start of their ordeal in the country as they were held hostage at the said airport for 24 hours. 

As a result, the Super Eagles, led by William Troost-Ekong, to their social media platforms to ask for help and revealed they would no longer play the match. 

Although CAF later released a statement, stating the match would not go ahead, the body received criticism for allowing Libya to host the game and subject their guests to a very dangerous situation. 

With the criticism growing every day, CAF’s president has now intervened in the matter, saying the body will take necessary action. 

The president revealed this at the CAF general congress in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, according to Osasu Obayiuwana. 

Motsepe said: ““That process is being properly investigated and appropriate action will be taken."

It remains to be seen the action that CAF will take, but a decision is expected before both teams play their final round of matches in the qualifiers next month.
