The French sensation burst onto the scene during the 2016/2017 season while playing for AS Monaco. He was subsequently loaned to PSG for a season before making his move to the Parc des Princes permanent, where he remained until 2024, eventually joining Real Madrid.

However, Mbappe's journey could have been entirely different, with the Real Madrid forward disclosing that several prominent German clubs were the first to approach Monaco regarding a potential transfer.

Which German Sides Wanted Mbappe?

In an interview with SPORT BILD, the captain of Les Bleus discussed the early stages of his career and how he nearly ended up playing in the Bundesliga.

"In 2017, when I started playing regularly for AS Monaco, Bayern showed interest in me. From what I recall, they weren't the only ones. Borussia Dortmund officials also held several discussions with the club and my agent," said Mbappe.

"I believe my agent even had a few meetings with RB Leipzig. It's possible there were even more Bundesliga teams, but I don't remember exactly. I just know I had a pretty good chance of moving to Germany at that time, but in the end, it didn't happen. Now, I think it's too late."

Mbappe Was Successful at PSG

Ultimately, PSG became Mbappe's next destination after leaving Monaco. He spent seven seasons at the Parc des Princes, securing six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, two League Cups, and three French Super Cups.

Since 2024, he has been playing for Real Madrid, with whom he has already won two trophies: the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup (the former Club World Cup format), both claimed last season.

The most significant triumph of the Frenchman's career remains the 2018 World Cup with the national team. Additionally, in the national team jersey, Mbappe also lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy in the 2020/2021 edition.
