Klopp responds to bizarre Vinicius Junior question

Brazil and Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior has been the victim of racist abuse throughout his time in Spain but it has been heightened this season.

Some fans at away grounds have resorted to hurling sickening levels of abuse at the Real Madrid star.

Before Real Madrid's game away at rivals Atletico earlier this season, Atleti fans hung an effigy of the Brazilian from a bridge. 

During the game itself, racist chants were heard from sections of the crowd, while outside the ground videos showed supporters chanting 'Vinicius, you are a monkey'.

LaLiga have tried to be proactive regarding these incidents and have so far filed six legal cases related to the abuse of the 22-year-old. 

Klopp was asked about his view on the Brazilian international ahead of the game between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 first leg.

One of the questions suggested the possibility of Vinicius provoking abuse from supporters with his on-field antics. 

A perplexed Klopp responded: 

“Nothing in the world could justify that (the abuse). Nothing in his game could cause this, that would be completely insane.

“His performance in Paris, I think, would make him a Real Madrid legend at a very young age. I hope he is not fazed by idiots saying something about him.”

Vinicius was spectacular in the Champions League final against Liverpool last season and has continued to grow from strength to strength at Real Madrid since he arrived in 2018. 

He has scored 16 goals this season in 34 appearances and will need to be closely monitored if Liverpool are to take a positive result away from this fixture.
