Three Kenyan referees were selected for the continental tournament that kicked off in Morocco on Sunday when the hosts started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Comoros.

Kenyan referees Peter Waweru Kamaku, Stephen Yiembe and Dickens Mimisa were selected for the tournament and will be in action on Monday, the second day of the action, during challenging Group B fixtures.

First in action will be Kamaku and Yiembe who will officiate the highly-billed clash between South Africa and Angola. Kamaku will be the fourth official while Yiembe will be one of the second assistant referees, the other one being Mohammed Abdallah Ibrahim. Mahmoud Ali Mahmoud Ismail will be the centre referee for this contest.

Dickens Mimisa Has Challenging Job

The match will kick off at 8pm (Kenyan time) with the two Kenyan officials being familiar to some of the players given they have been to AFCON before while they also officiate regularly in CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, Mimisa will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the second Group B fixture of the day pitting seven-time champions Egypt and Zimbabwe on Monday night, the game kicking off at 11pm (Kenyan time).

Mimisa will be a man under the spotlight as VAR decisions change the outcome of matches and he will need to get it right in a game where Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is the star attraction.

Senegalese trio Issa Sy (centre referee) and assistants Djibril Camara as well as Nouha Bangoura will officiate the match.

Yiembe and Mimisa will have the most difficult job among the three Kenyan referees as they will have to get their decisions spot on.
