Kenya Morans Crush Pitbulls, Old Hararians to Dominate Day One of Zambezi 7s Challenge
Kenya's second-string national sevens team, the Morans, delivered a commanding performance on the opening day of the 2025 Zambezi 7s Rugby Challenge in Zimbabwe on Saturday.
Competing at the Harare Sports Club, the Morans kicked off their Pool B campaign with a resounding 41-0 victory over Old Harrarians. They continued their impressive form later in the day, capping off their fixtures with a comprehensive 36-0 win against the Pitbulls.
In their final match of the day against the Pitbulls, the Morans wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Just one minute into the game, Dennis Abukuse broke through the left flank to score the opening try, which was successfully converted for a 7-0 lead.
Although the Pitbulls managed to create some chances, they failed to capitalize on their possession inside the Morans' 22. The Kenyan side punished their opponents' errors with a swift counter-attack, culminating in a try by Victor ‘Mola’ Odhiambo. The missed conversion left the score at 12-0 heading into halftime.
The Morans maintained their momentum after the break. A minute into the second half, Jackson Siketi found a gap in the Pitbulls' defense and raced to the posts for another try. A successful conversion extended the lead to 19-0.
The scoring onslaught continued as Rayvon Ambale, who had also scored in the earlier match, powered over the line to push the score to 24-0. Ambale quickly followed up with his second try of the match, completing his brace and bringing the tally to 31-0 after the conversion.
A final try sealed the dominant 36-0 victory for the Morans, ensuring they finished the group stage with an unbeaten record and a clean sheet for the day.
