Kakamega Homeboyz Provide Major Update as Suspect Is Arrested in Silas Abungana Case
Kakamega Homeboyz have given a major update following the tragic death of defender Silas Abungana, who passed away after being brutally attacked.
The promising footballer reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal domestic assault involving his own brother at their home.
The club confirmed the devastating news in a statement on Thursday morning, announcing that Abungana died shortly before midnight on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Kakamega General Hospital. He had been admitted with severe head injuries sustained in an assault on Tuesday night.
In the wake of the violent confrontation, the suspect fled the scene, prompting a pursuit by local authorities as they investigate the circumstances behind this senseless act.
Main Suspect in Silas Abungana's Murder Arrested
Kakamega Homeboyz confirmed that a suspect connected to the death of their player, Silas Abungana, has now been taken into custody.
The club acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement, noting that the response from the relevant agencies has brought a measure of reassurance during an extremely difficult period.
While the arrest marks an important step forward, the club emphasised that the loss remains deeply painful as they come to terms with the tragedy.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring accountability, while honouring Silas Abungana’s memory and the lasting impact he had on the club and its community.
“The perpetrator behind the death of our dear brother Silas Abungana has been apprehended. We appreciate the swift action by the authorities as we continue to mourn and seek justice for Silas. Forever in our hearts Silas,” the statement wrote.
Meanwhile, Silas Abungana's death came just days after he played the full 90 minutes in Homeboyz's FKF Premier League match against Mara Sugar last Saturday.
The experienced fullback had joined the club in August 2025 and quickly established himself as a key player under coach Patrick Odhiambo.
Before his time with Homeboyz, Abungana had a notable career with Shabana FC, where he was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Premier League in 2023.
After being released by Shabana in January 2024, he joined Gucha Stars, helping them achieve promotion to the National Super League for the 2025-26 season before making his move to Kakamega Homeboyz.
