However, they needed a second-half comeback to get a 2-1 win over Fulham after a poor first-half performance.

James made a surprising second consecutive start despite his injury history and Chelsea's Conference League defeat prompted seven changes.

Raul Jimenez led the line for Fulham, with Bassey in defence and Alex Iwobi playing in the midfield.

The first 20 minutes had Fulham all over Chelsea, with their pressure paying off and leading to Iwobi opening the scoring for the first goal.

The second half of the game looked like Fulham were going to get away with their one-goal lead, but the last 10 minutes changed the game.

Tyrique George started the comeback for the Blues in the 83rd minute and Pedro Neto completed it with the winning goal in injury time.

The win saw Chelsea move to fifth place in the table as they continue their chase for Champions League football.
