‘I've seen him play’ - Uganda star of Nigerian descent names one Super Eagles defender he is looking to face
Eric Chelle’s team made it to the round of 16 following their narrow 3-2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night.
Following the win, Nigeria are set to meet Uganda on Tuesday as they look to finish top of Group C with nine points in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles are aiming to win the trophy after losing in the final to Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON competition.
Ikpeazu speaks on facing Bassey
Ahead of the game, Uganda star of Nigerian descent Ikpeazu is anticipating a battle between himself and Calvin Bassey.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports, he said, “Yeah, it's amazing, but I have a lot of desire to progress through the next round. I don't want the journey to finish, you know; I feel like it's just getting started.”
He was then asked of the Nigerian defenders, who he is looking to face?” He replied, “Any of them, to be fair, any of them.
“I know Calvin Bassey is obviously a very physical defender and I have a couple of friends that play for Nigeria, so you know and I've seen him play as well, so we'll see.
“You know, it's not just about me, it's about the team. Hopefully we can, you know, all be effective and try and get the better of them.”
Ikpeazu, whose father is a Nigerian, will be facing his country in the 2025 AFCON competition in a bid to make it to the knockout stage.
