‘It's not good enough’ - Mikel Obi faults Caicedo for Chelsea’s draw against Arsenal
The Blues playing a 1-1 draw against Arsenal was the decisive moment that prevented his old club from securing all three points at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have struggled with discipline this season, accumulating a high number of cards across all competitions.
Caicedo's red card against the Gunners was the team's sixth of the Premier League campaign, adding to a concerning trend for manager Enzo Maresca.
What Mikel Obi said
Speaking on his "Obi One Podcast," Mikel, a two-time Premier League champion with the club, reflected on the eventful London derby.
"It was a good game to watch. A lot happened, didn't it? From the red card to the goal to Arsenal coming back to score an equaliser. It's a lot of yellow cards, a kind of game I'd have loved to play."
The pivotal moment came in the 38th minute when Caicedo was shown a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor for a reckless challenge on Mikel Merino.
While praising the team's resilience to earn a point, Mikel insisted that the result could have been much better.
"I think it was a good game; we played a good match. Going down to ten men with about an hour on the clock was brilliant," he stated.
"But there's something we need to deal with. How many games have we finished this season with eleven men? That's four red cards this season; it's not good enough."
"It's costing us games as well. If you look at that game, if we finished with eleven men, I think we could've won. Maybe not easily, but comfortably, we could've secured a win. Yes, we got a point, but we could've got three if we finished with a complete team."
The draw leaves Chelsea in third place in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester City and six adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
