‘It’s a good move’ - Chelle reveals he expected Marseille’s new signing to move to Premier League
Nnadi was reported linked with a move to several English Premier League teams, including West Ham United.
However, the 22-year-old, a member of the Super Eagles' 2025 Africa Cup of Nations squad, completed a move to the Ligue 1 club Marseille.
Chelle, who gave Nnadi his international debut for Nigeria, recently travelled to France after the midfielder completed his move.
Chelle speaks on Nnadi’s transfer
Chelle has praised the midfielder's distinct qualities, but claimed he wanted him to play in the Premier League.
"I watched him and wondered what he was still doing in that team," Chelle remarked to L'Équipe. "It’s a good move by Olympique Marseille. I expected him to go to the Premier League."
"He’s very quick, powerful, and capable of winning back possession from opponents, with that aggressive approach over about fifteen meters to chase down the ball carrier," the coach explained.
"With the ball, he plays a simple game, using his body to protect it," Chelle continued. "If he’s in an environment where the players support him and give him confidence, he’ll quickly reach his full potential."
The coach highlighted Nnadi's mentality and immediate impact upon joining the national team setup.
"He’s a real gem, this kid; you’ll be surprised because he can be very aggressive on the pitch."
Nnadi is in line to make his debut for Marseille in a high-profile Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain this Sunday at the Parc des Princes.
