While many believe the accolade was well-deserved, the outcome has left a bitter taste for many in Catalonia who felt Barcelona’s Yamal was unjustly overlooked.

Yamal was widely considered the world's best player last season, but PSG’s victory in the UEFA Champions League appears to have tipped the scales in Dembele's favour.

However, it was Dembele who claimed the ultimate prize, cementing his place in the history books.
