It has paid off — Super Eagles legend congratulates Lookman for Atletico Madrid transfer

Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh has congratulated Ademola Lookman following his move to Atletico Madrid, expressing pride and elation while praying for the 28-year-old to enjoy tremendous success in the Spanish capital.

As Pulse Sports reports, the Nigeria international joined Rojiblancos from La Dea on a four-and-a-half-year deal. Atleti completed the deal for €40 million (€35 million guaranteed and €5 million in add-ons).

The former Fulham star was handed the NO. 22 and has already begun training, expected to start against Real Betis in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

After sending a heartfelt message to Atalanta via social media, Lookman utilised the same medium to introduce himself to his new fanbase. “Proud and excited to start this new chapter,” he said on X.

“I’m happy to join Atlético de Madrid, a massive club with rich history and passion. New city, new challenges, new energy. I’m ready to give everything on the pitch and fight for these colours every time I step out there. Let’s get to work, Aupa.”

Former Dortmund midfielder Oliseh has been expressive of his excitement since the confirmation of the transfer broke. He believes that the transfer could be a watershed moment for Nigerian football, and in a different tweet, congratulated and prayed for the diminutive forward.
