Reflecting on this flexibility, Awaziem told Elegbete TV that his approach is shaped entirely by the coach’s tactical plan. “I mean for me, I’ve played a different position in the back.

“It depends on the structure of the coach. It depends on where the coach wants me to perform,” he said. “I just go there and just try to do the job as possible as I can.”

His readiness to adapt has made him a dependable option in the Super Eagles squad, with coaches able to rely on him whenever adjustments are required during matches or across the tournament.

‘If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready’ - Awaziem

Awaziem went a step further by stressing that his commitment extends beyond traditional defensive duties, even jokingly opening the door to a role up front if necessary. “So, I just try to do my best, you know, do everything possible to help the team, help myself as well,” he explained.

“So, if the coach wants me to be a goalkeeper, I’m ready. If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready,” he added, underlining a selfless mindset ahead of AFCON 2025.

Despite this openness, Awaziem was clear about where he feels most comfortable on the pitch. “But my preferred position right now today as I’m speaking to you, I’m a center back,” he said. “So, I would prefer to remain in my position, center back.”

Nigeria will kick off their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, before facing Tunisia and Uganda, with Awaziem’s versatility expected to be a valuable asset throughout the group stage.
