I'm living a dream — Lamine Yamal revels in his record breaking performance
Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal made his international debut for the Spanish today in their European Champions qualifier victory against Georgia, and he was in high spirits after the match.
Record breaking Yamal
The 16-year-old became Spain's youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer, as he fired the ball into the net in La Roja's 7-1 win.
The Spanish-Moroccan broke the record set by his Barcelona teammate, who became the youngest goalscorer for Spain last year at 17 years and 304 days.
Also, Yamal's debut age (16 years, 57 days), according to Opta, is the third youngest male footballer who has made his debut for a European national team, behind Northern Ireland's Sam Johnston in 1882 (15 years, 160 days) and Hungary's Jozsef Horvath in 1906 (16 years, 12 days).
What Yamal said
"I'm living a dream right now," the player started, acknowledging the unbelievable position he is in.
“I'm very happy, and I thank my teammates and the coach for giving me the confidence, and everyone who has helped me along my path. I'm very satisfied with my decision. It's going to be a very long road with Spain, and I hope we can win many things together."
