The Argentine legend left the club in 2021 after his contract ended and moved to PSG in France.
During his illustrious tenure at Camp Nou, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner became a global superstar, scoring a record 672 goals in 778 appearances.
He led the Blaugrana to 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns, cementing his status as one of the greatest players of all time.
Messi plans Barcelona return
Messi expressed his pride in receiving the honour, especially considering the legendary figures he was up against.
The award, presented by the publication SPORT, saw Messi chosen over club icons such as Johan Cruyff, Ronaldinho, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta.
"This award is very special because of what it represents and where it comes from," Messi said upon receiving the prize.
"We've been through a lot together, both good and not so good... This is my home, my place, and my people."
The forward reiterated his long-term plans, confirming that he and his wife, Antonela, intend to live in Barcelona again after his playing career concludes.
"Obviously, I'm going to come back," Messi stated. "For now, I'll be here [in Miami] for a few more years, most likely, but we'll return to Barcelona because, as I've always said, it's my place, my home. We miss it a lot."
