Former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor has hit back at Jamie Carragher's recent critique of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, labeling the comments as both unfair and disrespectful to one of the sport's most consistent performers.

Carragher had recently questioned Salah's impact and leadership during a difficult period for Liverpool, implying the Egyptian forward was becoming a liability. However, Adebayor strongly refuted this assessment in an interview with BeanymanSports.

"I heard what Jamie Carragher said about Mo Salah, and to be honest, I think it’s incredibly disrespectful," Adebayor stated. "He has been consistent for seven or eight years. To talk about him as if he is a finished player or a problem for the team is wrong."

Adebayor Demands More Respect for Salah

Adebayor emphasised Salah's status not just in Africa but across the globe. "Mo Salah is an African icon, but he is also a global football icon. When you have a player like that, you cherish him," he added.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker also suggested Carragher's perspective was detached from the realities of playing the game.

"Carragher was a great defender, and he knows how hard it is to play against a player like Salah," Adebayor explained. "To sit in a studio and say these things, it feels like he’s forgotten what it’s like on the pitch."

He concluded by suggesting that Salah's nationality might be a factor in the criticism he receives. "If he were English, they would be building a statue for him every week. Because he is Salah, and because he is African, people find it easy to criticise him."
